Lenoir City's Trees and Its River

Tree Service in Lenoir City runs right up to the water. The Tennessee River and the TVA reservations around Fort Loudoun and Watts Bar form the city's southern boundary, and U.S. 321 crosses Fort Loudoun Dam just south of town. Most of the city lies in Loudon County, with a small part in Roane County. It covers about 8.6 square miles, all land, and is home to around 10,100 people at the 2020 census, with a Census Bureau estimate of 12,530 for 2025.

A town that was laid out on purpose

In 1890 the Lenoir City Company bought the old Lenoir estate and laid out a planned town. That early plan, together with the growth that came with the Fort Loudoun Dam project after 1940, means the central streets have some of the oldest yard and street trees in Loudon County. Those trees are big now. Common requests in the older parts of town:

  • Pruning limbs over roofs, porches and the street
  • Removing hollow or decayed trees before they fail
  • Cutting back trees growing into service lines
  • Grinding stumps left in front yards and side lots

Remembering 1993

In February 1993, an F3 tornado tore through parts of Lenoir City, killing one person and injuring 55. Tornadoes are the extreme case, but strong storms bring the same kind of damage on a smaller scale: trees uprooted, tops snapped, limbs on roofs and cars. After a storm, look before you touch anything. If a tree is tangled in wires, stay back and call the utility. If it is on the house, we can usually make the first cuts to take the weight off quickly and safely.

Lake-side yards

Homes near the river and the TVA lands often have yards that slope toward the water, and their trees lean out toward the light over the lake. Waterfront trees are prized for shade and privacy, so we prune these rather than remove them whenever the tree is sound. If you own along a TVA reservoir, check the shoreline rules before cutting trees close to the water, since the strip along the shore may be TVA land.

The utility side

The Lenoir City Utilities Board serves the city, and it built a new headquarters next to a community center in 2016 and 2017. If a tree on your property is touching a power line, contact the utility before any tree work. We'll schedule our part once the line is safe.

Who's calling us

Census figures put the owner-occupied rate at 63.7% and show that 21% of residents are 65 or older. We hear from a lot of longtime homeowners who don't want to be on a ladder anymore, and from landlords managing rental houses. Either way, the process is the same: a visit, a clear written estimate, and the work done as written. Call (865) 401-8827 or use the form. Get a free estimate

Lenoir City Details

  • Local electric utility. Power in and around Lenoir City comes from the Lenoir City Utilities Board, a TVA distributor serving more than 61,100 customers in Knox, Loudon and Roane counties, so line-clearance questions go to LCUB, not KUB.

Lenoir City Questions

A storm put a tree on my house in Lenoir City. What first?

Get everyone out of the damaged part of the house and stay away from any downed wires. Call the utility if lines are involved, then call us at (865) 401-8827 to take the weight off the roof and remove the tree in sections.

Can I cut trees on my lakefront lot?

Trees on your own land are generally yours to manage, but land right at the shoreline may belong to TVA, which has its own rules. Check with TVA before cutting near the water.

Do you work in the Roane County part of Lenoir City?

Yes. We cover the whole city, including the small portion in Roane County.

Can you send the estimate to my landlord?

Yes. If you rent, give us the owner's or manager's contact details and we'll send the written estimate to them for approval.

How soon can you come out after a storm?

We schedule storm calls in order of danger, so a tree on a house or blocking the only driveway comes before limbs in the yard. Call (865) 401-8827 and describe what happened, and we'll give you an honest idea of timing.
