Tree Work for a Lake Community

Tree Service in Tellico Village means working in one of the most carefully planned communities in the Knoxville area. Tellico Village is an unincorporated planned community and census-designated place on the western shore of Tellico Reservoir in Loudon County, about 30 miles southwest of Knoxville. Cooper Communities established it in 1986 on land the TVA had acquired around Tellico Lake, which formed after Tellico Dam was completed in November 1979. It has three golf courses and a yacht and country club, and its governmental functions are handled by the Tellico Village Property Owners Association.

Who lives here

Tellico Village is a retirement community in all but name. Census figures show 68.1% of residents are 65 or older, and the 2020 median age was 70.5. The owner-occupied rate is 95.8%, and the median owner-occupied home value is $517,200. Homeowners here generally want trees cared for, not cleared, and they want the work done neatly, quietly and with as little disruption to the lot as possible.

POA review

Because the POA manages the community, check with them before removing trees or doing major work, especially on common areas, golf course edges or lake frontage. We can provide a written description of the tree's condition and the work proposed, which you can submit with any approval request. Trees on land that belongs to the POA or the TVA should not be cut without the owner's permission.

Lake, golf and wooded lots

Tellico Village covers about 10 square miles, of which about 2.6 are water. Lots fall into a few broad types:

  • Lakefront lots with trees leaning toward the water, often on slopes
  • Golf course lots where limbs and roots affect fairways, cart paths and views
  • Wooded interior lots where the house was built into the trees and the canopy is close on all sides

Each type has its own concerns, and we plan accordingly. On lake lots, we keep debris out of the water. On golf lots, we coordinate around play and avoid damage to turf. On wooded lots, we focus on dead trees, roof clearance and trees leaning toward the house.

Gentle on finished landscapes

Many Tellico Village homes have finished landscaping: beds, lighting, irrigation, stone walls and paths. We lay down mats or plywood where equipment has to cross turf, plan drop zones to avoid beds and hardscape, and lower limbs on ropes when they're over structures. The written estimate describes the cleanup so you know what the lot will look like when we leave.

Help with the heavy lifting

Many residents are past the point of wanting to climb ladders or haul brush. We take care of it all, and we can schedule a pruning visit every few years to keep trees healthy and clear of roofs and decks.

Seasonal timing

For most hardwoods, late fall through winter is a good time for structural pruning, with leaves down and growth paused. That also tends to be a quieter time on the golf courses and the lake. Dead or hazardous trees, though, should be dealt with whenever they're found.

Tellico Village Questions

Do I need POA approval to remove a tree in Tellico Village?

Check with the Tellico Village POA before removing trees or doing major work, especially near common areas, golf courses or the lake. We can give you a written description of the tree and the proposed work for your request.

Can you prune trees on a golf course lot without damaging the course?

Yes. We plan the work to avoid turf damage, keep debris off the course and coordinate timing around play when needed.

Can you thin trees for a better lake view?

Often, yes, with selective thinning and raising the lower canopy. Check with the POA first, and we'll avoid taking too much from any one tree.

Will you protect my landscaping?

Yes. We use ground mats, plan drop zones away from beds and hardscape, and lower limbs on ropes near structures.
